Lions acquire former No. 2 overall pick Robinson from Rams

Sep 21, 2017 - 7:49 PM The Detroit Lions acquired former No. 2 overall pick Greg Robinson from the Los Angeles Rams for an undisclosed draft pick, the teams announced on Thursday.

While the clubs did not specify the pick, ESPN's Adam Schefter cited a source as saying that it is a sixth-round selection for the 2018 draft.

Robinson, an offensive lineman, will join the Lions one week after left tackle Taylor Decker injured his shoulder and underwent surgery. The NFL Network reported that the 23-year-old Decker is expected to be sidelined four to six months due to the injury.

Robinson, who was selected out of Auburn with the second overall pick of the 2014 draft, started 14 games for Los Angeles last season and 42 of 46 career NFL contests at both tackle and guard.

"Since we drafted Greg, he has been committed to our organization, his teammates and community outreach," Rams general manager Les Snead said in a statement. "We appreciate his dedication and the effort he's put forth over the past three seasons. We wish him the best as he embarks on this new chapter."

The Lions signed free-agent tackle Cyrus Kouandjio to a contract on Thursday. Kouandjio, who was a second-round pick of the 2014 draft by Buffalo, appeared in 12 games for the Bills last season -- including five starts at left tackle.

"They're both good athletes," Lions coach Jim Caldwell said of both Robinson and Kouandjio. "... Good athletes that have ability and they've played a bit in the League. We're happy to have them. Both guys give us an opportunity to get better and that's the key."

Detroit also waived long snapper Jimmy Landes and tackle Arturo Uzdavinis on Thursday.
