Bengals TE Eifert to miss game versus Packers

Sep 22, 2017 - 9:13 PM Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers because of a back injury.

Eifert, 27, did not practice all week. In two games for the struggling Bengals (0-2), he has just four receptions for 46 yards.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound Eifert was one of the team's top targets in 2015 with 52 catches for 615 yards and 13 touchdowns in 13 games. He played in only eight games last season due to a combination of back and ankle injuries, making 29 catches for 394 yards and five TDs.

Eifert, who underwent offseason surgery on his back, is in the final season of his rookie contract with the Bengals, who made him their first-round pick in 2013 out of Notre Dame. He has never played a full 16-game schedule since entering the NFL.

Rookie wide receiver John Ross also was officially ruled out on Friday. He was listed as a non-participant in Thursday's practice with an illness.

Also, right guard Trey Hopkins (knee) will miss his second straight game.
