'The Catch' revived: 49ers to fete Clark

Oct 18, 2017 - 7:41 PM The San Francisco 49ers will pay tribute to Dwight Clark, known for making "The Catch" from Joe Montana in one of the most iconic plays in NFL history.

The organization announced Wednesday that "Dwight Clark Day" at Levi's Stadium which will take place on Sunday when the 49ers host the Dallas Cowboys.

In March, the 60-year-old Clark said in a statement he is battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.

A special halftime presentation will feature a tribute to the 49ers' 1981 championship team and the historic moments that led to their Super Bowl victory.

More than 30 former teammates will take the field, while Montana introduces a highlight video and addresses the crowd. Clark is expected to make some remarks from a suite.

The Super Bowl XVI season included Clark catching the 6-yard winning touchdown pass from Montana for a 28-27 victory over Dallas in the NFC Championship Game at Candlestick Park to send the 49ers to their first Super Bowl.

The day will celebrate Clark's many contributions to the organization as a wide receiver (1979-87), a front office executive (1989-98), and in his current role as 49ers Hall of Fame consultant.

All fans at Sunday's game will receive a Dwight Clark T-shirt upon entry to the stadium with his No. 87 on the front and a silhouette of him leaping to make "The Catch."

The Dwight Clark family will participate in the honorary coin toss.

Clark played all nine NFL seasons in San Francisco, making 506 catches for 6,750 yards and 48 touchdowns in 134 regular-season games.
