Chiefs sign CB Revis

Nov 22, 2017 - 10:34 PM The Kansas City Chiefs signed free agent cornerback Darrelle Revis to a contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Revis, who is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, last played for the New York Jets in 2016 before being released in the offseason.

"Darrelle is a proven player in this league and we are excited to add him to our secondary," Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said in a statement. "He's had a Hall of Fame career and his leadership and playing experience will be valuable to our defense."

Kansas City's defense absorbed a significant hit right out of the gate, as Eric Berry sustained an Achilles injury in the season opener.

It is not immediately known if Revis will suit up for the Chiefs (6-4) in Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills (5-5), but Kansas City visits his former team -- the Jets -- the following week.

Revis has recorded 29 interceptions -- with three returned for touchdowns -- during his 10-year career with the Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots. The 32-year-old also collected 483 tackles, two sacks, six forced fumbles and 11 fumble recoveries in 140 games (all starts).

Revis' career reached a peak in 2009, when he intercepted six passes and recorded an NFL-most 31 passes defended. He was a member of the Patriots' team that won Super Bowl XLIX in 2015.
