Seahawks' Jefferson tries to climb into stands

Dec 12, 2017 - 12:34 AM Seahawks defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson, sent to the showers late in Seattle's 30-24 road loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, nearly took a detour into the stands on his way off the field.

Jefferson, following his ejection, tried to climb a railing to go after a fan who tossed a drink at him.

Debris came raining down toward Jefferson as he headed toward the tunnel to leave the field. He stopped to yell back at fans, then made an effort to climb into the stands before a Seahawks equipment staffer pulled him down. Eventually, a number of Seahawks workers ushered Jefferson into the tunnel.

"Folks in the stands was throwing beer and throwing soda, whatever. I mean, I don't know what I'm supposed to do," said Jefferson, a second-year player. "I'm a human just like anybody else. I'm a man just like the other man in the stands. I'm not going to let somebody disrespect me, throw a beer on me.

"Just because I'm playing football, I'm still a human being. I'm still a man. I'm out there playing a game, and at the end of the day, it's a game and I'm a man. I'm not going to let somebody disrespect me like that."

Seattle defensive tackle Jarran Reed wrote on Twitter that a fan called Jefferson the N-word.

According to USA Today Sports, NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said, "Everything from Sunday's games will be reviewed."

A Jaguars spokesperson told USA Today that the team would investigate to see if a fan or fans should be subject to having future tickets revoked.

Jefferson's ejection occurred as part of a pair of fights that broke out as the Jaguars were kneeling down to complete the win. Seattle's Sheldon Richardson also was tossed from the game in the final seconds.

Jacksonville tight end Marcedes Lewis said, "There's no room in the game for that. You see we're kneeling. You can get somebody hurt. We're out there trying to kneel, there's no timeouts, you guys can't stop the clock. Like, why try to hurt somebody?"
