NFL Note - Kansas City Chiefs Terrell, Steven

Dec 14, 2017 - 9:39 AM S Steven Terrell turned in his best performance of the season for the Chiefs on Sunday, sealing Kansas City's 26-15 win with an interception on the team's final defensive play, and did so knowing it would be his final game of the season.

The team placed Terrell on injured reserve Monday. The 27-year-old safety suffered a dislocated finger last week, but played against the Raiders with the Chiefs thin at safety due to injuries.

"I knew that this hand injury would make Sunday my last game and I just wanted to go out on a good note," Terrell tweeted following his surgery. "Hate to see my season end over something like this, but I know it's all part of God's plan."

Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton praised Terrell for his gritty performance, as well as his ability to step into the lineup with backup safety Eric Murray out with a high-ankle sprain.

"When you're not in there, you're in there," Sutton said of how he wants his backup players preparing each week. "You're that player. It's you in there. When you're watching the video, that isn't Ron Parker, that's me playing that position. That's how you have to do it and see it if you want to keep moving ahead. A guy like Steven I think did a great job of that because he's had games where he's been inactive and still did a great job, stepped in and really made no mistake, did a great job."

Murray returned to practice in a limited role this week. The team also elevated rookie safety Leon McQuay from the practice squad. The club selected McQuay in the sixth round of this year's draft from USC.

"I'm ready," McQuay said after learning of his promotion. "It's the same thing I've been doing every day when we get out here in practice. It will be no different. Take what I do in practice to the field when I get on it."

McQuay's grandfather, nicknamed "All the Way" McQuay, spent parts of three seasons as a running back in the NFL with the New York Giants, New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints. He spent another five seasons
