Dolphins reportedly tab Loggains new OC

Jan 4, 2018 - 3:26 AM Dowell Loggains is joining the Miami Dolphins as their new offensive coordinator, replacing Clyde Christensen, according to multiple reports Wednesday.

Christensen apparently will remain with the Dolphins in another role.

Loggains spent the past two seasons as the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator on the staff of recently fired head coach John Fox.

In 2015, Loggains and Dolphins head coach Adam Gase worked together with the Bears. Loggains was quarterbacks coach and Gase was Chicago's offensive coordinator before leaving to take the Miami job.

Loggains' NFL experience includes stints as quarterbacks coach in 2014 for the Cleveland Browns, offensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans in 2012-13, quarterbacks coach for the Titans from 2010 to 2012 and quality control coach for Tennessee in 2008-09.

Christensen was a longtime Indianapolis Colts assistant before coming to Miami in 2016. With the Colts, he served as offensive coordinator, assistant head coach and wide receivers coach.

Though Christensen was Miami's offensive coordinator the past two seasons, Gase called the plays. But the Dolphins sputtered on offense, ranking 28th in the league in scoring at 17.6 points-per-game.

The Bears were even worse under Loggains this past season, averaging just 16.5 points-per-game to rank 29th in the NFL.

Earlier in the day, Gase said regarding staff changes, "We're going through that process right now. I'm going to talk with all of these guys and have conversations with (vice president of football operations) Mike (Tannenbaum) and (general manager) Chris (Grier), Mr. (Steve) Ross. We'll make decisions over the next probably week or so. I know this, we're in no rush."

Loggains interviewed with the Dolphins on Tuesday. He's expected to focus on working with quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who will be returning next season after missing all of 2017 after knee surgery in August.
