Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs Odds & Game Pick (2022)

Jan 14, 2022 - 8:33 PM

In what is the most lopsided matchup (on paper) in years, the Steelers will visit Kansas City on Sunday night to wrap up the weekend slate of Wild Card games. While they’re nearly two-touchdown favorites, the Steelers come into this one with higher-rated defense across the board.

Let’s take a closer look.

Details

  • Opening Line: Chiefs -13, O/U 46.5
  • Current Line: Chiefs -12.5, O/U 46
  • Last meeting: December 26, 2021, Steelers 10, Chiefs 36

Overview

When these two met the day after Christmas, it was an ugly scene for the Black and Gold as they got ran off the field by the end of the first half. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 258 of his 4,839 yards on the season, despite not having Travis Kelce in the lineup due to COVID protocols.

One area where Kansas City doesn’t have the edge in this one is the rushing game, as their backs Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Darrel Williams continue to deal with injuries and come into this one combining for just 115 yards per game this season. CEH has been ruled out for this game.

For the Steelers, a heavy dose of their own rushing attack in Najee Harris will likely be in order for this one, as quarterback Ben Roethlisberger continues to struggle to throw downfield. He could be getting an unexpected weapon back for this one, however, as JuJu Smith-Schuster is practicing this week after missing the majority of the season with a shoulder injury.

While his status is still doubtful, his even potential availability is welcomed by Roethlisberger and his struggling offense.

Trends

  • Steelers are 1-7 ATS in L8 following ATS win
  • Over 4-1 in Steelers L6 in the role of road underdog
  • Over is 5-0 in Chiefs L5 vs. AFC opponents

Bottom Line

While he was no doubt being mostly sarcastic, there was certainly truth in Roethlisberger’s statement this week that “we aren’t a very good football team.” With Kelce back for this one and a motivated defense led by former Steeler Melvin Ingram looking like a different team as of late, I expect the Chiefs to roll early in this one and for the December nightmare for the Steelers to repeat itself in spades.

Pick: Chiefs -12.5
