What are Team Futures?

Futures refers to any team-based wager for a future event or a result. These bets often do not pay out until weeks or even months from when they are originally placed. Bets for Win Totals and the Super Bowl winner are good examples of team futures bets.

It is interesting that these preseason odds so closely resemble those of a season ago, and often the reigning champs would have shorter odds than these Rams.

However, no team has won back-to-back titles since the Patriots of 2004. And with so much inherent uncertainty in the NFL, there is no sense in betting the Rams to repeat at this point in time.

In the same sentiment as above, there is no value in betting the Rams to win the NFC. Bets like these should be reserved for teams whose odds might drastically shorten as the year progresses, and this line presents little opportunity for this.

A +500 wager would only be profitable (long term) if one projected the Rams greater than 1/6 chances to win the conference. This wager is hard to justify in mid-July, so pass on taking L.A. to win the NFC.

The Seahawks seem content to entertain a QB competition between Drew Lock and Geno Smith, and most chatter surrounding the Arizona Cardinals this offseason has been dominated by off-field headlines

San Francisco projects as the Rams’ greatest threat within the division, and even they aren’t without questions of their own.

With the 49ers expected to hand the reins to second-year QB Trey Lance, it is reasonable to expect some growing pains in a transitional year for the franchise. Furthermore, star WR Deebo Samuel seems both content with moving on from San Francisco, and uneasy about his role in an offense absent Jimmy Garoppolo.

Amidst so much uncertainty, this is a terrific price to bet the reigning champs to repeat in the NFC West.

These Rams finished 12-5 a season ago and have exceeded 10.5 wins in three of five years with Sean McVay at the helm.

Yes, L.A. will face a difficult schedule this season (10 games versus teams in the postseason a season ago), but this is a fair price to bet the champs to carry over their successes of a season ago.

Take the Rams to win more than 10.5 games (-105)

This current line for the Rams to make the playoffs (-250) implies a roughly 70% probability that L.A. returns to the postseason. In what is undoubtedly the weaker of the two conferences, it is difficult to count seven NFC teams that would make the playoffs without including Los Angeles.

Additionally, no reigning Super Bowl Champion has missed the playoffs the following year since the 2016 Denver Broncos, a team that shared seldom similarities to these Rams.

If one is comfortable laying -250 on L.A. to make the playoffs, go for it.

Favorite L.A. Rams Futures Bet

I absolutely LOVE the Rams to repeat as champs in the NFC West (+135).

The NFL’s most difficult division has quickly become one of the most uncertain. In the second year of marriage between the franchise and QB Matthew Stafford, expect the Rams to build upon their successes of a season ago as their division foes scramble to catch up.
