NFL Hall of Fame Game: Jaguars vs. Raiders Odds, Overview & Pick (2022)

Aug 3, 2022 - 1:05 PM

And just like that, we are back.

The offseason always seems the longest in the NFL, but Thursday marks the first official action we’ve seen since the Super Bowl as the Jacksonville Jaguars and Las Vegas Raiders will go at it in Canton for the 2022 Hall of Fame Game.

Let’s take a closer look at both teams and how things might shake out in Canton.

Overview

The Las Vegas Raiders will get their first chance back on the field since being eliminated by the eventual AFC Champions last postseason, this time with a new shiny toy in star wide receiver Davante Adams.

While Adams likely won’t see much, if any, action, new head coach Josh McDaniels will get a first chance to see some of his work on display.

A big question mark for the Raiders, which they’ll use each preseason game to decide, is what to do with the running back position. Picking up Zamir White in last year’s draft, the Raiders also have Josh Jacobs, Kenyan Drake, and Brandon Bolden on the roster.

For the Jaguars, second-year quarterback Trevor Lawrence will get a fresh start without the disaster that was head coach Urban Meyer. The Jaguars will also get a chance to see a healthy Travis Etienne, who will be getting a fresh start this season after suffering a season-ending foot injury at the beginning of last season.

The former Clemson product, a first-round draft pick in the same class as Lawrence, Etienne ran for nearly eight yards per carrying in college to go along with 49 touchdowns, all in just 30 games.

Bottom Line

Like we saw from him in New England, McDaniels loves his running backs, and I think we see him deploy them early and often as he finds which ones will work best in his scheme this year. I think we see him have some fun with them out of the gates here, catching a young Jaguars defense off guard throughout the night.

Also, even though it’s already dipped, I’m grabbing the under. Since 2010, only three teams have scored more than 20 points, a trend I don’t see changing with these two offenses.

Pick: Las Vegas Raiders -1.5
