NHL Game Summary - New Jersey at Chicago

Nov 4, 2010 - 5:24 AM Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Jamie Langenbrunner registered a goal and two assists, and the New Jersey Devils overcame an injury to goaltender Martin Brodeur to beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 5-3, at United Center.

Travis Zajac had a goal and one assist for the Devils, who finished 2-4-0 on their six-game road trip.

"No one has ever stopped working here," said New Jersey head coach john MacLean. "I think this is a big win for them and we still have work to do, but it's going in the right direction."

Brodeur stopped all eight shots he faced before leaving in the second period with a bruised right elbow. Johan Hedberg made 21 saves in relief.

"It's not an ideal situation, but when you realize you're going in the adrenaline kicks in," said Hedberg. "The focus comes instantly and you just try to find your groove and patience.

Viktor Stalberg finished with a goal and two helpers for Chicago, which has dropped five of its last seven games. Marty Turco stopped 19 shots in defeat.

"I think we tried to force things too much out there," said Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville. "They had the neutral zone bottled up pretty well and we had to battle the whole game."

Down 2-1, Fernando Pisani stuffed the rebound of a Stalberg shot behind Hedberg for a power-play goal at 3:42 of the third period.

Bradley Mills banked the puck off Turco to put Devils up 3-2 with 3:51 remaining. It was his first NHL goal.

Langenbrunner scored an empty-netter with 49.3 seconds left to give New Jersey a two-goal advantage, but Stalberg lit the lamp with 31.9 seconds remaining to bring Chicago within one. However, any chance of a dramatic comeback ended when Andy Greene fired the puck into an empty cage with 7.1 seconds showing on the clock.

The Devils grabbed a 1-0 lead when Jason Arnott converted a Patrik Elias pass at 15:31 of the first period. Zajac made it 2-0 by firing a wrister past Turco at 4:14 of the middle stanza.

Chicago got on the board when Brian Campbell's sharp-angle shot went in off the stick of a New Jersey player with 3:58 to play in the second period.
