Ducks slip past Penguins

Nov 6, 2010 - 5:44 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Bobby Ryan, Ryan Getzlaf and Saku Koivu each scored in the second period to lift Anaheim to a 3-2 win over Pittsburgh at the Honda Center.

Lubomir Visnovsky contributed two assists while Jonas Hiller turned away 30 shots to earn the victory for the Ducks, who earned their first regulation victory over the Penguins since December 15, 2002.

Anaheim's Teemu Selanne became the 87th player and just the 10th European-born player in NHL history to play in 1,200 games and celebrated with an assist to move past Al MacInnis into 33rd place on the league's all-time scoring list with 1,275 points.

Sidney Crosby scored his first two career goals against Anaheim and Kris Letang assisted on both for the Penguins, who have lost two in a row and five of their last six.

"We came out and we played physical tonight," said Penguins' forward Mike Rupp. "Our team is built to play that way and we haven't been consistent with it. So, I think over the course of 60 minutes tonight, we played a pretty good brand of hockey that we can be proud of. Over the course of 82 games, we like our chances playing that way."

Marc-Andre Fleury yielded all three goals on only 19 shots in the defeat and was denied his 150th career victory.

After a scoreless first period, Anaheim scored three times in less than seven minutes in the middle session to forge a 3-0 lead.

Visnovsky's slap shot was blocked in the slot and came right back to him at the midpoint. He then sent a pass to Ryan, who scorched a wrister from the top of the right circle past Fleury 7:35 into the stanza.

From the bottom of the left circle, Ryan bounced a pass off the end wall to Corey Perry, who came out to the left side of the net and slipped a pass through the crease to Getzlaf, who one-timed it home at 12:22.

"The three of us have chemistry," Ryan said of the threesome that has racked up 44 points over the last 11 games. "We know where each other are and we play well off the puck. The most important thing is to realize that we can't all have it all at the same time and we have to support each other better. We've done that here at home but the key is to take it on the road where the matchups aren't always going to be what we want."

Just two minutes and four seconds later, Koivu picked up a rebound in the slot and put home the loose puck for his third goal of the season.

The Penguins got on the board with a power play goal with 2 1/2 minutes left in the period to trim their deficit to 3-1.

Alex Goligoski passed from the midpoint to the top of the left circle from where Letang's slap shot was tipped home on the backhand by Crosby.

Pascal Dupuis shot from the right circle and the rebound caromed to the slot where it was picked up by Crosby and backhanded between the legs of Hiller just 3:48 into the final period to make it a 3-2 game.

The Penguins pulled Fleury with just over a minute left. Evgeni Malkin was denied by Hiller from the right doorstep in the visitors' best scoring chance with the extra attacker.

Getzlaf has recorded a goal in three straight and points in six of his last seven games while Visnovsky has points in six of his last eight, including multiple points in four of his last six...Koivu has 22 goals and 50 points in 47 career games against Pittsburgh...Hiller earned his first career win over the Penguins...Ryan netted his first goal against the Pens in four matchups.
