Blues win sixth straight, outlast Bruins in SO

Nov 7, 2010 - 4:05 AM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Brad Boyes supplied the decisive goal in the shootout, as the red-hot St. Louis Blues defeated the Boston Bruins, 2-1, at TD Garden.

Patrice Bergeron couldn't beat St. Louis goaltender Jaroslav Halak to begin the extra segment, then T.J. Oshie slipped a backhander under the pad of Boston's Tuukka Rask.

Bruins rookie Tyler Seguin and Boyes both scored in the second round before Halak denied Michael Ryder to preserve the win.

"I was just trying to stop the puck and luckily for me, the first and third shooters hit the post," said Halak about the shootout. "I'll take it. Every time it stays out, it is good for the team."

Former Bruin Vladimir Sobotka lit the lamp in regulation for the Blues, who have won six games in a row for the first time since December 6-18, 2003. Halak finished with 33 saves.

Gregory Campbell tied the game with seven minutes left in the third period for Boston, which was coming off a 5-3 loss at Washington on Friday. Rask stopped 34 shots in defeat.

Campbell evened things up by hammering home a feed from Ryder between the circles. Moments later, Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo was whistled for hooking but the Bruins failed to convert on the power play.

Alexander Steen stole the puck from Boston defenseman Dennis Seidenberg and quickly dished to Sobotka, whose wrister from between the circles beat Rask on the blocker side with 3:20 remaining in the first period.

Both teams recorded 12 shots in a scoreless middle stanza.

"We had a lot of opportunities," said Boston forward Nathan Horton. "All of our lines were getting opportunities. That's what we need to do to start the game. I think if we play the whole game like that, we'll have success."

The Blues have won five straight in Boston, with their last losing decision a 5-1 setback on January 30, 2001...St. Louis has yet to lose a game in regulation this season when scoring two or fewer goals (4-0-2)...Blues defenseman Ian Cole made his NHL debut after being called up from Peoria of the AHL on Friday...Sobotka registered six goals and 16 assists in 134 regular-season games with the Bruins from 2007-10.
