Frolik leads Panthers past scuffling Leafs

Nov 11, 2010 - 5:42 AM Sunrise, FL (Sports Network) - Michael Frolik posted a goal and two assists as the Florida Panthers downed the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs, 4-1, at BankAtlantic Center.

Shawn Matthias had a goal and an assist while Bryan Allen and Steven Reinprecht each scored once for the Panthers, who came into the game having lost four of six. Tomas Vokoun stopped 32 shots in the win.

"We're starting to play together here," said Frolik. "You just have to keep working and it will show. We're gonna build on this and try to keep it rolling."

Mikhail Grabovski scored the lone goal for the Maple Leafs, who have dropped seven straight and 10 of 11 since starting out the season 4-0-0. Jonas Gustavsson was tagged for all four goals on 28 shots in the loss.

"We're getting enough shots and getting enough scoring chances," said Toronto head coach Ron Wilson. "It starts to get into your head and you start squeezing your sticks. We've got to figure things out here."

Florida struck 7:42 into the game as Allen picked up an errant clear from Gustavsson at the left point and slapped it through traffic.

Late in the second period on the power play, the Panthers took a 2-0 lead as Reinprecht grabbed the rebound at the right side and shot it into the open net for his third goal of the season.

Matthias scored on a breakaway at the 2:44 mark of the third when he beat Gustavsson to the five-hole and Frolik scored on the power play with 7:16 to play.

Grabovski's goal with 6:35 to play spoiled Vokoun's shutout bid.

Game Notes

Florida hosts Minnesota on Friday...The Maple Leafs welcome Vancouver to Toronto on Saturday...Toronto took a 3-1 decision over Florida on October 26, the last time the team won...The Maple Leafs are on their longest skid since dropping eight in a row to begin last season.
