Ducks down Dallas for sixth straight win

Nov 13, 2010 - 6:23 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Bobby Ryan scored a pair of goals in the third period, as the surging Anaheim Ducks held off the Dallas Stars, 4-2, at the Honda Center.

Ryan Getzlaf and Saku Koivu also lit the lamp for the Ducks, who have won six in a row for the first time since February 17-March 3, 2008. Jonas Hiller made 27 saves.

Brandon Segal and Brad Richards scored for the Stars, who have lost three straight. Kari Lehtonen turned aside 33-of-36 shots.

With the score tied at 1-1, Getzlaf gave the Ducks the lead at the 1:53 mark of the third period. Corey Perry slid a pass from behind the net to Getzlaf, who chipped the disc past Lehtonen.

Ryan made it a 3-1 game with a power-play goal at the 9:36 mark. Ryan's one- timer from the point deflected off a Dallas player and into the back of the net.

"When Getzy buried that goal, it was huge," Ryan said. "The three of us fought the puck a little bit early in the game, so it was nice to get rewarded for sticking with it. We've figured each other out and we're rolling right now. It's evident. It just needs to stick."

Dallas had a chance to make things interesting just 28 seconds later. Jamie Benn was awarded a penalty shot when Paul Mara was called for holding on a breakaway. Hiller made a nice save on Benn to keep it a two-goal game.

Richards, though, scored with 3:38 remaining to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Stars went on the power play soon after when Mara was whistled for cross- checking.

Dallas failed to score with the man advantage, and pulled Lehtonen with time winding down for the extra attacker. Ryan, though, scored an empty-net goal to give the Ducks the win.

The Ducks drew first blood at the 13:56 mark of the first period. Teemu Selanne collected the puck at the side of the net and slid a pass to Koivu, who unintentionally knocked the disc past Lehtonen with his skate. It remained a call following review.

Segal's slap shot with 5:08 remaining made it a 1-1 game.

Lehtonen made 12 saves during a scoreless second, while Hiller stopped nine shots.

"We gutted it out and we got better as the game went along," Dallas head coach Marc Crawford said. "Unfortunately, we made a couple of miscues. But I don't even want to call them miscues. One guy loses his stick on a penalty kill, and that's what gave them their great scoring chance, and there's a little bit of a mistake at the start of the third period on really a 'nothing' play."
