Bertuzzi gets Wings past Avs

Nov 14, 2010 - 2:58 AM Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Todd Bertuzzi's goal and assist sent Detroit over Colorado, 3-1, at Joe Louis Arena.

Jiri Hudler and Dan Cleary also registered a goal in the game as the Red Wings have won three in a row and five of their last six. Jimmy Howard made 21 shots for the win.

Peter Budaj fended off 22-of-25 shots for Colorado, which was coming off a 5-1 win Friday in Columbus. John-Michael Liles had the lone goal for the Avalanche.

Bertuzzi put Detroit up, 1-0, when his wrister from the right circle found the back of the net on a power play at the 12:58 mark of the opening period. Franzen notched the primary assist, setting up the score with a pass from the center point.

The Red Wings jumped to a 2-0 lead 30 seconds into second period when Hudler scored on a breakaway. The home team took a three-goal edge at 5:52 when Cleary scored on Bertuzzi's assist.

Detroit played keep-away during the final stanza, but Colorado managed to crank up its only offense of the game on a power-play goal from Liles on a Paul Stastny assist at the 5:28 mark.

Howard stopped the remaining eight shots over the final 20 minutes to lock up the victory.

Game Notes

Coming into Saturday's game Colorado had taken six of nine overall from Detroit, including four out of the previous five in the Motor City...Howard upped his record to 9-1-1 on the young season.
