Thomas, Bruins shut down reeling Devils
Nov 16, 2010 - 7:25 AM Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Tim Thomas turned aside 28 shots as Boston downed New Jersey, 3-0, at TD Garden.Michael Ryder, Nathan Horton and Blake Wheeler tallied for the Bruins, who also got two assists from Mark Recchi in halting a two-game slide.
Thomas bounced back from his first loss of the year -- to Ottawa on Saturday -- to improve to 9-1-0 with his fourth shutout of the season and 21st of his career.
"I felt like they weren't going to find a way to score," Thomas said. "I used to not care about shutouts, and I still don't for the most part, but getting to 25 is a milestone that few people reach at the NHL."
Martin Brodeur stopped 21 shots in defeat for the Devils, who have dropped five of their last seven.
The Bruins evenly distributed their goals with one in each period.
The Bruins cashed in on a two-man advantage to score the first goal of the game at 15:26. Patrice Bergeron passed from the left point to the bottom of the left circle for Ryder, who wristed a shot past Brodeur on the short side.
Milan Lucic fed cross ice to Horton, who took the pass just outside the Devils blue line and beat Brodeur far side from the top of the right circle just 43 seconds into the second period to make it 2-0 Boston.
Wheeler's snap shot 43 ticks into the third period ended the scoring.
