Stars sweep home-and-home with Blues
Nov 28, 2010 - 8:25 AM St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Loui Eriksson scored the go-ahead goal on a power play early in the third period, and the Dallas Stars held on for a 2-1 win to sweep a home-and-home series with the St. Louis Blues.Jamie Benn scored the first Dallas goal 65 seconds into the third and Eriksson netted a wrister from the right circle less than four minutes later, lifting Dallas to its third straight win overall.
The Stars won the opener of the home-and-home series at their place on Friday, scoring two goals in the third period for a 3-2 victory. So the outcome was familiar -- and not just to the winning team.
"Same thing happened last night. We had a lead going into the third and we blew it," said St. Louis goaltender Jaroslav Halak.
Kari Lehtonen earned the win for Dallas, stopping 35 of the 36 shots he faced in net -- including all nine he saw in the third period.
B.J. Crombeen tallied the only St. Louis goal late in the second period and the Blues lost for the seventh time in 10 games. Halak allowed two goals on 23 shots in the loss.
The game was slow in the early going.
Crombeen opened the scoring for St. Louis with 1:11 remaining in the second period, giving the Blues the lead with a heads-up play. Patrik Berglund's wrist shot from the left side got behind Lehtonen and Crombeen was able to stuff it in.
Halak stopped all 16 shots he faced through the first two periods, but was finally solved when Benn tied the game for Dallas 65 seconds into the third period.
Benn beat the St. Louis goaltender with a wrister from a sharp angle on the right side, tying the game at 1-1.
Dallas then took its 2-1 lead on a power play less than four minutes later, with Eriksson netting the go-ahead goal on a wrister from the right circle.
It was the first time St. Louis lost a regulation game on home ice this season. The Blues fell to 8-1-1 at Scottrade Center.
Game Notes
Dallas' Adam Burish had a goal disallowed in the second period because he kicked the puck in with his right skate.
