Ryan's hat trick helps Ducks cool off Coyotes
Nov 28, 2010 - 7:39 AM Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Bobby Ryan recorded a hat trick as Anaheim scored five consecutive goals in a 6-4 victory over the red-hot Phoenix Coyotes at Jobing.com Arena.Ryan Getzlaf had four assists in Anaheim's comeback victory, which broke a six-game slide. Brandon McMillan recorded his first goal of the season, while Corey Perry and Jason Blake each tallied in the much-needed triumph.
"That's exactly what we needed after playing Chicago," Getzlaf said. "It's nice to get back and play without a deficit. We played a tough team. We battled and were able to get a few goals."
Shane Doan had three helpers for the Coyotes, who at the other end of the spectrum had a seven-game win streak snapped. Derek Morris, Scottie Upshall, Lauri Korpikoski and Keith Yandle each notched goals in the loss.
"It's one of those things where we're pushing too much without the puck," Doan said. "With that team, you give them that many opportunities they're going to beat you."
Anaheim collected its first lead 6:39 into the final period when Getzlaf collected a blocked shot and then crossed it to McMillan in the slot, who swept it in the net.
Perry made it a 5-3 game 55 seconds later with a feed from Getzlaf, and the Ducks' fifth straight goal came at 8:15 when Getzlaf recorded his fourth helper on a feed to Ryan.
Coyotes cut it to a two-goal game with 5:57 left when the puck bounced of a Anaheim defender's skate and Upshall was able to backhand it past Jonas Hiller.
But the Ducks were able hold on to their lead during the final minutes.
After a quick opening 14 minutes with very little play stoppages, Morris' goal broke the scoring by ripping a re-directed glove-side shot from the point.
Blake knotted the score at one apiece with 83 seconds left to play in the first on a deep zone turnover picked up by Dan Sexton, who then shoveled it to Blake at the top of the crease for the goal past Ilya Bryzgalov.
Only 2:19 into the second period, Phoenix regained the lead on Korpikoski's tally.
During a power play, Doan served Yandle's one-timer from the right faceoff circle to give the Coyotes a two-goal cushion eight minutes later.
But that lead didn't last long as Ryan lit the lamp to make it a 3-2 game with 9:03 left in the middle period.
The Ducks tied at three during an unusual turn of events 14:13 into the second. Phoenix had a chance to score when Wojtek Wolski had a point blank shot, but the puck bounced out of the zone and onto Ryan's stick for a breakaway tally under Bryzgalov's left leg.
