Final
LaBarbera, Coyotes blank Stars
Dec 27, 2010 - 6:18 AM Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Jason LaBarbera stopped 30 shots to record his fifth career shutout as Phoenix edged Dallas, 1-0, at American Airlines Center.Kyle Turris posted the game's lone goal for Phoenix, which finished a six-game road trip with a 2-3-1 record.
Meanwhile, Coyotes defenseman Ed Jovanovski played in his 1,000th NHL game. The assistant captain is the 256th player in league history to reach that mark and the fifth player to do so this season. He has 132 goals and 478 points over his career, which also includes stints in Florida and Vancouver.
Kari Lehtonen stopped 24-of-25 shots for Dallas, which has dropped two straight on the heels of a three-game winning streak.
"We wanted to come out hard tonight and we didn't do that," Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas said. "We wanted to get more pucks at the net and get more traffic in front of the net."
After a scoreless opening period, Loui Eriksson had a chance to put Dallas up on a penalty shot 6:48 into the second, but LaBarbera turned away the quick shot to keep the game 0-0.
Instead, it took nearly 31 minutes of play for Turris to break the scoreless game with a wrist shot off a rebound from Shane Doan's breakaway try.
"Those young players are making good plays like that," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said of Turris. "Their confidence will continue to grow."
The Coyotes were able to hold onto their slim margin throughout the rest of the game. LaBarbera had nine saves in the final period as Dallas pulled Lehtonen with 1:23 left in the game, but failed to find the equalizer.
