Morrow, Lehtonen power Stars to win over Blues

Jan 3, 2011 - 3:37 AM St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Brenden Morrow tallied a pair of goals to back a 28-save performance from Kari Lehtonen as Dallas downed St. Louis, 4-2, at Scottrade Center.

Brad Richards added a goal and two assists for the Stars, who had dropped four of five coming in, but registered their fifth consecutive road victory.

Dallas last put together a similar string away from home between January 17- February 7, 2008.

"Every game is critical right now and you want to make sure when you have the opportunity to get two points you take advantage of it," said Morrow.

David Backes and Alex Steen posted first-period goals for the Blues, who saw their five-game win streak snapped.

Jaroslav Halak took the loss after yielding all four scores on 27 shots.

"I don't think it's about what Dallas did it's about what we didn't do," said St. Louis head coach Davis Payne. "It was a very poorly executed game on our part and it cost us a win."

Morrow evened the score, 2-2, at 2:28 of the third period on a slick backhander from the right side, then Richards was credited with Dallas' go- ahead tally at 6:32 when a shot from Trevor Daley hit his body in the crease and rolled over the goal line.

James Neal provided insurance with 2:50 to play as he took a drop pass from Toby Petersen and ripped a shot through Halak's pads to make it 4-2 for the Stars.

The home team pulled Halak for an extra skater with 1:09 remaining to no avail.

Backes put the Blues on top with 6:09 to play in the opening period, but Morrow responded on a power play for the Stars just 54 seconds later.

Eric Brewer's point drive was tipped in by Steen at the left post with 1:15 left in the first for a 2-1 St. Louis edge.

In a scoreless middle 20 minutes, Lehtonen was equal to 11 shots and Halak turned away all five he saw.
