Hiller, Ducks shutout Blue Jackets

Jan 8, 2011 - 7:04 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Jonas Hiller stopped 27 shots for his third shutout of the season as the Anaheim Ducks clobbered the Columbus Blue Jackets, 6-0, at Honda Center.

Teemu Selanne and Bobby Ryan each scored twice while Cam Fowler added three assists for the Ducks, who have won four of their last five games. Matt Beleskey had a goal and an assist and Brandon McMillan also lit the lamp.

"We tried to shoot the pucks and had good screens in front of the net," said Selanne. "That is what we need. These goalies are so good these days. We did a better job in that area. The power play and penalty kill, we know that if we can do a good job in those areas, we are going to win a lot of games."

Steve Mason was pulled from his start in the third period after giving up four goals on 24 shots for the Blue Jackets, who have dropped the first three contests of their four-game road trip. Mathieu Garon finished the contest in net and was charged with two goals on five shots.

"They capitalized on their power play and we didn't capitalize on ours," said Columbus forward Rick Nash. "Their PK did the job and we couldn't get the job done. You have to work hard, you get good opportunities in this league. You have to play the system right and do the right things if you want to get chances, and tonight we didn't."

Selanne got the scoring started at the 5:48 mark of the first on the power play when his one-timer from the right circle found its way into the net.

The Ducks took a 2-0 lead with another Selanne one-timer on the power play as his blast from the left circle beat Mason for his 12th goal of the season at the 7:02 mark of the second.

Exactly six minutes later, Anaheim made it 3-0 as Maxim Lapierre sent a pass from the slot to the top of the right circle where Beleskey used a one-timer for his second goal of the season.

Ryan scored 1:26 into the third and again close to the eight-minute mark on the power play for a 5-0 lead.

McMillan's third goal of the season came shorthanded at the 15:22 mark for a 6-0 lead.
