Roloson, Lightning shut out Flyers

Feb 2, 2011 - 4:27 AM Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Dwayne Roloson stopped all 38 shots he faced to post his fourth shutout of the season, as Tampa Bay opened up its post All- Star schedule with a convincing 4-0 victory over Philadelphia at St. Pete Times Forum.

Teddy Purcell scored twice with Steve Downie and Steven Stamkos adding a goal each for the Lightning, who have won all three meetings this season against the Atlantic Division leaders and have taken six in a row overall.

Roloson upped his record since being acquired from the Islanders to 8-3-0 for Tampa Bay, which improved to 3-0 on its current franchise-record 12-game homestand.

"He's been awesome so far. He's such a veteran back there, so composed," Purcell said about Roloson. "He serves as an extra boost of confidence for us."

Sergei Bobrovsky was tagged in the loss for three goals on six shots in one period for the Flyers, who had won eight of 10 prior to the All-Star break and surged to the top of the NHL standings with the effort.

Brian Boucher finished up by allowing one score on 16 shots.

Tampa needed just 19 seconds to notch the game's first goal, as Simon Gagne fed ahead for Purcell, who worked a give-and-go with Vincent Lecavalier on a 2-on-1 and scored from the left side.

It was 2-0 for the home team at 1:21. Gagne ripped a shot from the left wing that sailed well wide, but the puck popped out into the slot from behind the boards and Purcell was credited with making contact on Gagne's second try.

Downie put the Bolts ahead by three with 5:36 left in the first when he slipped a shot between Bobrovsky's pads.

Roloson made 14 saves and Boucher turned in 11 stops during a scoreless second period -- one which saw the visitors come up empty on a pair of power-play chances.

Following a sequence where Roloson contorted his body to stop three point- blank Flyers chances, Stamkos ripped a wrister under the crossbar from the right wing at 8:51 of the third period for a 4-0 Tampa Bay edge.

Roloson ended his whitewash with 11 saves in the final stanza.

"I think you've got to respect your opponents when you want to make to the playoffs, otherwise you won't get to the playoffs," said Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette about the Lightning's resurgence. "They have a good team, they're having a good year. We got behind early and couldn't get an attack going."
