Ryan scores on OT penalty shot, Ducks top Wings

Mar 3, 2011 - 6:46 AM Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Bobby Ryan scored on a penalty shot with 2:10 to play in overtime, lifting the Anaheim Ducks to a 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Honda Center.

Ryan was hauled down by Ruslan Salei on a breakaway and awarded the first penalty shot of his career.

He skated in on net and buried a wrister past Jimmy Howard for the win and his 30th goal of the year.

"I just tried to close my eyes and put it in the right place," Ryan said.

Jason Blake scored in the third period while Dan Ellis stopped 28 shots to help the Ducks win for a second straight game.

Pavel Datsyuk lit the lamp and Howard stopped 26 shots for the Red Wings, who had won their previous two.

"Their goalie made some saves and we missed a couple of open nets," Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock said. "The game was set up for us to find a way to get a win and we didn't."

A scoreless first period saw Howard make eight saves and Ellis turn aside three pucks.

Detroit, though, made it a 1-0 game 5:10 into the second on the power play when Datsyuk threw the puck out front from behind the net where it deflected off a Duck and went in.

Anaheim, though, tied the game 1:54 into the third as a blazing shot from the slot by Blake sailed past Howard.
