Morrow lights lamp in OT, sends Stars past Kings
Mar 8, 2011 - 6:54 AM Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Brenden Morrow scored 38 seconds into overtime to cap Dallas' 4-3 comeback win over Los Angeles.Jamie Benn had a short-handed goal to tie the game early in the third, while Mike Ribeiro and Trevor Daley also lit the lamp for the Stars, who have earned a point in six straight games (5-0-1).
Kari Lehtonen made 20 saves to earn the win, while Jonathan Bernier was beaten four times on 22 shots to take the loss.
Willie Mitchell, Justin Williams and Kyle Clifford each tallied for the Kings, who finished a six-game homestand with a 3-2-1 record.
Ribeiro set up the game-winner, avoiding three defenders between the circles and leaving the puck behind him for Morrow, who found the back of the net to give the Stars the only lead of the game they needed.
"[Ribeiro] kind of mesmerizes people with the puck," Williams said. "Not sure if he passed it to me or if I stole it, but I just chipped it back to myself and it found a hole. It wasn't real hard, it was just a quick shot and I don't think [Bernier] got time to get set."
Mitchell scored the lone goal of the first period at 8:39, slapping a one- timer from the left point past a screened Lehtonen.
Ribeiro one-timed Adam Burish's backhand pass with a quick wrister from the right circle to tie it at 6:47 of the second, but Williams cleaned up his own rebound to regain the lead 35 seconds later.
Daley's wrister from the left circle tied the game again just 1:57 into the final frame, though the Stars got caught in a line change less than a minute later and Clifford took advantage with his fifth goal of the year.
Stars defenseman Stephane Robidas was called for hooking shortly thereafter. Despite being short-handed, Benn picked off a pass in his defensive zone and used some nifty stick handling to fit the puck between Bernier's pads at 5:20 to knot the game yet again.
"We're a team that if we're going to make the playoffs we're going to need to lock games like these down," Williams said.
Game Notes
