Rangers top Sharks in SO

Mar 13, 2011 - 7:56 AM San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Brandon Dubinsky scored in the sixth round of the shootout, lifting the New York Rangers to a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Henrik Lundqvist made 31 saves and performed well in the shootout for the Rangers, who have won three of four. Erik Christensen and Mike Sauer scored in regulation.

Antti Niemi turned aside 20 shots for the Sharks, who were coming off Thursday's shootout loss to Vancouver. Ryane Clowe and Ben Eager lit the lamp.

San Jose's Dan Boyle began the second round with a delayed backhander over Lundqvist, but the Rangers stayed alive when Wojtek Wolski snapped a quick shot by Niemi to end the third round.

Lundqvist stopped the next three San Jose shooters, making saves on 5-of-6 in all, to enable Dubinsky's game-winning wrister.

San Jose got on the board with 7:30 left in the opening period, during a power play. Clowe one-timed Logan Couture's pass from above the right circle, and the puck got past a Rangers defender before sailing over Lundqvist.

Later in the period, Christensen sneaked through the San Jose defense for a quick one-timer from the front edge of the crease, tying the game with 3:03 left.

Sauer got off a successful wrister from the slot 1:16 into the second period, despite hitting Clowe's skates during his follow-through.

Eager, though, tipped in Torrey Mitchell's blast from the left point, making it a 2-2 game with 3:34 remaining in the middle frame.

Niemi needed to make only three saves in the third period, while Lundqvist stopped 12 shots before turning aside three in overtime.
