Sharks rally past Ducks

Apr 3, 2011 - 7:09 AM San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Devin Setoguchi scored the go-ahead goal on a power play with 5:21 remaining, leading the San Jose Sharks to a 4-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Setoguchi, lining up a one-timer from above the left circle, scored on a slap shot through a screen to give the Sharks their first lead of the game. It was also their only power play.

San Jose moved back in front of Detroit for the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference after the Red Wings beat Nashville in overtime earlier Saturday to briefly take the lead.

The streaking Sharks got two goals from Patrick Marleau and have at least a point in eight straight games, giving them 101 for the season to Detroit's 100.

Anaheim remained No. 7 in the standings, two points behind Nashville and one ahead of Chicago.

The Ducks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Bobby Ryan and Lubomir Visnovsky. Ryan carried the puck in down the left side, then scored moments later on a one-timer near the far post. Visnovsky scored on a power play, beating Antti Niemi with a slap shot from above the left circle.

Niemi had 20 saves in the win and kept Anaheim off the board in the second and third periods, stopping all 15 shots he faced in them.

Ray Emery stopped all six shots he saw in the first period for the Ducks, but allowed three goals on 26 shots the rest of the way.

"I thought we responded well in the second and third," said San Jose head coach Todd McLellan.

The comeback started with Dany Heatley's goal 2:01 into the second period -- a backhand from the slot -- and Marleau tied the game at 12:45, receiving a pass from Setoguchi in front and switching to his backhand to beat Emery.

Setoguchi's go ahead goal came after Jason Blake went off on a holding penalty -- Anaheim's first infraction of the game. It wouldn't have been possible without Joe Thornton's expert screen in front of Emery. Still, Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle was unhappy with his team's effort on the play.

"We had a couple chances to clear the zone," he said. "Setoguchi got the puck at the point and we didn't line up in the shooting lane."

Marleau added an empty netter with 41 seconds left. The teams came together in a scrap near the end, totaling four penalties with less than five seconds left.

Game Notes

While San Jose cashed in its only power play, the Ducks went 1-for-4...Marleau and Setoguchi each had a game-high three points...Corey Perry had two assists for Anaheim...The teams will meet again in Anaheim on Wednesday.
