Leafs down Ducks
Mar 11, 2014 - 5:31 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Phil Kessel and Tyler Bozak each registered a goal and two assists to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center.Paul Ranger had the other goal and Jonathan Bernier stopped 43-of-44 shots as Toronto began a five-game road trip with a third consecutive win and fifth in a row in the series with Anaheim.
"It is nice to start off the road trip with a win," Bozak said. "We know it is going to be a really tough trip so that is a big start for us."
The Maple Leafs also will face the Sharks, Kings, Capitals and Red Wings on their trek.
Corey Perry scored the lone Ducks goal, while Frederik Andersen stopped 20 shots.
Anaheim concluded its five-game homestand with three straight losses after opening with back-to-back wins.
The Ducks fell behind 3-0 when Ranger converted on a 2-on-1 rush with Kessel, tapping in the forward's pass at 3:44 of the second period.
Anaheim tried to mount a comeback, peppering Bernier with 19 second-period shots.
Perry was able to light the lamp with 5:41 remaining. Ryan Getzlaf set up Patrick Maroon for a redirection in the slot and the puck deflected off a Toronto player right to Perry at the left post for an easy tap-in.
The Ducks were just as relentless in the third period, but Bernier turned away all 16 shots he faced.
"We had our fair chances, but we just couldn't capitalize on them," said Anaheim defenseman Francois Beauchemin. "I thought we played a decent game. We didn't get the result we wanted, but we had lots of chances offensively."
Toronto struck twice late in the first period.
Bozak tipped home a Dion Phaneuf pass for a power-play goal with 3:09 remaining. Kessel then split the Anaheim defense while blazing down the middle and beat Andersen on a breakaway with 38.4 seconds left.

Getzlaf played in his 617th career game, passing Steve Rucchin for sole possession of third place on the club's all-time list ... Anaheim's Bruce Boudreau coached his 500th career NHL game ... The Ducks were 0-for-4 on the power play.
