Anderson helps Ducks edge Kings
Mar 16, 2014 - 6:20 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Frederik Andersen made 37 saves to help the Anaheim Ducks take a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.Tim Jackman and Patrick Maroon scored for the Ducks, who have won two straight following a four-game slide.
Tyler Toffoli scored the only goal while Martin Jones stopped 18 shots for the Kings, who have lost their past two after winning eight consecutive games.
"We played against the top team in the conference and you're not going to win scoring one goal," said Los Angeles head coach Darryl Sutter. "I liked that we only gave up two goals, but that's not enough when you play teams like this."
Anaheim scored at 13:01 of the first period for a 1-0 lead. Matt Beleskey sent the puck from the right boards to the right circle for Mathieu Perreault, who quickly passed it down low for a tip-in by Jackman.
The Kings tied the game at 11:21 of the second period when Jarret Stoll's snapshot from the left circle was stopped, but the rebound went to the right side where Toffoli slammed it in for a power-play goal.
It didn't stay tied for long, though, as the Ducks regained the lead 51 seconds later as Maroon's short chip pass from the low left side hit off the skate of Jake Muzzin and slid into the net.
Los Angeles appeared to score late in the third period when a shot from Anze Kopitar in the slot went in. The goal, though, was waived off and when play stopped at 6:23 the refs stated that Marian Gaborik, battling in front of the net, had interfered with Andersen.
"They ran right into our goalie," Anaheim head coach Bruce Boudreau said of the disallowed goal. "I've seen so many, a lot less things called for penalties. I'm surprised they didn't get a penalty. We knew automatically, that there was no way that was going to count."
The Kings pulled Jones with over a minute to play for an extra attacker, but was unable to net the equalizer.
