Seguin lifts Stars past Preds in SO

Apr 9, 2014 - 4:58 AM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Seguin scored the winner in the fourth- round of the shootout as the Dallas Stars inched closer to a playoff spot with a 3-2 win over the Nashville Predators.

Dallas has 89 points on the season and moved two points ahead of Phoenix for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference. Phoenix lost to Columbus in overtime on Tuesday.

"We just focused on what we could do," said Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff. "The schedule is demanding and it gets a little bit worse tomorrow. I'm a little concerned that our energy was good early and the energy began just slipping away."

Jamie Benn and Alex Goligoski scored in regulation for the Stars, who have won five of seven. Kari Lehtonen stopped 27 shots.

Gabriel Bourque had both goals and Pekka Rinne made 28 saves for the Predators, who were knocked out of playoff contention with the loss.

"This group shows a lot of character all the time," said Nashville head coach Barry Trotz. "There is no give up and we have a couple of more games left. I know this team will continue to play hard. That's what they do."

Nashville tied the game at 10:24 of the third as Paul Gaustad stole the puck behind the net and quickly centered it for Bourque, who one-timed the puck in for his ninth of the year.

Dallas grabbed a 1-0 lead at 2:23 of the first after Vernon Fiddler fed the puck from the right boards to the right point where Goligoski fired it in from the circle.

Bourque's first goal of the game came on a one-timer from the slot at 1:22 of the second period, but the Stars regained the lead seven minutes later as Benn finished off a 2-on-1 with a wrister from the left circle.
