Spooner's OT goal boosts Bruins over Devils

Feb 28, 2015 - 5:00 AM Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Ryan Spooner's first career goal came with 2:14 left in overtime to give the Boston Bruins a 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Skating during a 4-on-2 rush, Torey Krug brought the puck in down the right wing and left a drop pass for David Pastrnak, who sent the puck over to the left wing where Spooner shot it home for the win.

"I thought it was a pretty good effort," Boston coach Claude Julien said. "Give the guys credit, they found a way to win in overtime."

Pastrnak posted a goal and an assist while Daniel Paille also scored for the Bruins, who have won two of their last three since a six-game skid.

Niklas Svedberg, getting the start as Tuukka Rask is battling an illness, made 29 stops in the win.

Travis Zajac and Jordin Tootoo scored for the Devils, who have dropped their past two. Cory Schneider stopped 31 shots in the loss.

"I thought we played really well in the second half of the game," said Schneider. "It was tough to lose this one in overtime."

Boston scored at 8:39 of the first off a turnover as Loui Eriksson picked up an errant pass at the left boards and whipped the puck to the right side where Paille had an open net for his third of the year.

After a scoreless second period, the Bruins took a 2-0 lead 1:40 into the third as Pastrnak followed up his own shot to put the puck into the net for his seventh of the year.

New Jersey, though, scored a pair of goals just over two minutes apart to tie the game.

The first goal came on the power play at 5:57 as Jacob Josefson sent a pass from the right circle to the low right side for Adam Henrique, who sticked the puck to the front but lost control. Zajac, though, was at the left side to bury it for his ninth of the year.

Mike Cammalleri picked up a turnover at the right wing and charged to the other side before sliding a backhand pass back the other way and Tootoo one- timed it home for his sixth of the season.

Boston hosts Arizona on Saturday ... New Jersey plays in Columbus on Saturday ... New Jersey was 1-for-2 on the power play while Boston was 0-for-2 ... New Jersey played its first game without forward Jaromir Jagr, who the team traded to Florida on Thursday for a pair of draft picks.
