Flames edge Bruins in SO
Mar 6, 2015 - 3:13 AM Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - David Schlemko scored the deciding goal in the eight round of the shootout to give the Calgary Flames a 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins. Both teams entered Thursday's game on the inside track of a tight playoff race with less than 20 games remaining, and Calgary picked up the much-needed extra point when Schlemko, who was acquired off waivers from Dallas last week, beat Tuukka Rask in his first game with the club.
Johnny Gaudreau, the 2014 Hobey Baker Award winner while playing at Boston College, broke a 2-2 tie with a power-play goal 4:59 into the third period to give the Flames their first lead. Loui Eriksson, though, answered for Boston with 8:20 remaining in regulation.
Jiri Hudler recorded a goal and assisted on Sean Monahan's power-play tally late in the first period for the Flames, who received 34 saves from Karri Ramo and improved to 3-2-0 on their seven-game road trip.
Brad Marchand and Milan Lucic also scored for Boston, while Rask stopped 29 shots in defeat.
Marchand stuffed in a wraparound for his team-leading 19th goal of the season at the 7:46 mark of the opening period, and Monahan scored the equalizer off a rebound in traffic with 1:11 to go in the stanza.
Lucic one-timed Ryan Spooner's pass from behind the net 2:30 into the second, but another rebound late in the period saw Hudler cash in from the left circle for his 21st of the year.
