Rinne, Predators shut down Sabres

Mar 22, 2015 - 4:22 AM Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Pekka Rinne notched his fourth shutout of the season with a 22-save performance, and Nashville downed Buffalo by a 3-0 count at Bridgestone Arena.

Taylor Beck, Craig Smith and Mike Fisher lit the lamp for the Predators, who had gone just 2-6-1 in the month of March until Saturday night. Ryan Ellis and Matt Cullen added two assists each for the hosts.

"It was nice to see the change in the third period. We were able to capitalize," said Nashville head coach Peter Laviolette.

Matt Hackett took the loss in spite of 40 stops for the Sabres, who have lost nine of their last 10.

"Thought Hackett played well. He gave us a chance," Buffalo head coach Ted Nolan said. "Some posts, some breakaways. Can't fault the effort."

Beck snapped the scoreless tie at 14;52 of the second period, tipping in a Shea Weber point drive only four seconds into Nashville's lone power play of the contest.

Smith made it 2-0 at 5:49 of the third, slamming home the rebound of an Ellis shot from the left wing.

Viktor Stalberg fed Fisher for a successful shot from between the circles inside of five minutes left in the contest.
