Stars wreck Ducks' plans to take top seed in West
Apr 9, 2015 - 6:21 AM Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jhonas Enroth stopped 19 shots for his first shutout as a member of the Stars, and Jamie Benn picked up three assists as Dallas posted a surprising 4-0 victory over Anaheim at Honda Center.Enroth posted his second clean sheet of the season, while Patrick Eaves tallied twice with Vernon Fiddler and Jordie Benn scoring once each for the Stars, who have won three in a row despite being eliminated from postseason consideration.
"We didn't have any pressure on us, we just went out there and played," said Enroth.
Frederik Andersen gave up all four scores on 32 shots for the Ducks, who could have clinched the top seed in the Western Conference with a win. Anaheim played without captain Ryan Getzlaf, who rested for the second straight game.
"Watching the game, it didn't look good," said Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau. "We didn't have any energy or lift."
The Stars struck three times in just over nine minutes in the second period to take control of the contest.
Fiddler opened the scoring just after two minutes elapsed, following up a Ryan Garbutt rebound and slipping it home at the left post.
Jordie Benn made it 2-0 with a primary assist from brother Jamie at 8:11. Tyler Seguin won a left-circle draw back to the latter Benn, who slipped a pass back to the near point where the former ripped it by Andersen.
Eaves struck on a power play at 11:25 with a one-timer from between the circles, then finished off the scoring at 11:44 of the third -- both off dishes from Jamie Benn.
Game Notes
Enroth has five career whitewashes ... Dallas finished the year with 24 road wins, one off the franchise record set during the 2005-06 season ... Benn ended the night tied for fifth in the NHL with 51 assists and deadlocked atop the league scoring list with 83 points alongside Islanders center John Tavares and Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.
