Seguin's hat trick leads Stars over Jackets
Oct 15, 2014 - 4:25 AM Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Seguin notched a hat trick to help the Dallas Stars to a 4-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday.Seguin's second goal of the game gave Columbus the lead in the third period. He also scored the first and last goal and Jamie Benn added a marker and three assists for the Stars, who got their first win of the season after opening it with consecutive losses. Kari Lehtonen stopped 33 shots in the win.
"That was an awesome display," said Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff. "Both guys played well. Seguin had a heck of a game and Benner the same thing."
Ryan Johansen had a pair of goals for the Blue Jackets, who had won their first two games of the season. Sergei Bobrovsky allowed three goals on 34 shots in the loss.
"I thought we were doing some good things in the first period, and got back into the game in the second," said Johansen. "We just came out flat in the third and they took it to us."
With the game tied in the third, Benn cranked a slap shot from the high slot that Seguin, wrestling with a defender in front, was able to get a stick on and tip it home with 7:44 to play.
Seguin capped off his fifth career hat trick with an empty-net goal and just one second showing on the clock.
The first goal of the game went to Seguin, as Benn used a slap-pass from the right point to the low left side where Seguin redirected it for his first of the year at 3:36 of the first.
Benn scored three minutes later when he worked the puck around a pair of defenders at the right point and skated to the slot before wristing it into the right corner.
Columbus got one back at 6:17 of the second period as Johansen used a quick wrist shot from the inside right circle to put the puck into the left corner of the net for his first of the season.
Skating on the power play, Johansen tied the contest as he jammed home a rebound off a Nick Foligno stuff attempt at 14:22 of the second.
