Final
Wild slip past eager Stars
Nov 16, 2014 - 7:47 AM Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Mikael Granlund netted the winner early in the third period, backing a 27-save effort from Darcy Kuemper, and Minnesota clipped Dallas, 2-1, at American Airlines Center.Erik Haula provided the other meaningful offense for the Wild, who have won two in a row since dropping four straight.
"We were not perfect by any means," said Wild coach Mike Yeo. "We found our game through the course of the game, and to find a way to win was huge."
Antoine Roussel scored and Kari Lehtonen stopped 20 shots for the Stars, whose two-game win streak came to an end.
"It's getting tighter," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said of the parody in the NHL. "That's why we're all sitting in the middle. Our biggest issue has been at home where we beat ourselves."
Only 40 seconds into the third, Lehtonen mishandled a flip from the right wing by Charlie Coyle, then Granlund was able to poke the puck home from atop the crease.
The Stars peppered Kuemper with 11 shots over the final 20 minutes but he refused to bend. Dallas went with an extra skater for the final 90 seconds of regulation, and spent most of that inside the Minnesota zone.
Coyle failed twice on clearing attempts, but each time the puck went back near the Wild net, a pass in front just skipped over the stick of a Stars player.
Kuemper made eight stops and Lehtonen six in a scoreless first stanza.
Roussel whipped the rebound of a Vernon Fiddler wraparound attempt home from the left side at 5:34 of the second period to open the scoring.
Minnesota tied the game with 4:19 left before intermission as Ryan Carter flipped a pass to the left wing for a perfectly-placed shot inside the far post from Haula.
