Devils ride early offense to win over Hurricanes

Feb 22, 2015 - 2:51 AM Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Tuomo Ruutu, Adam Henrique and Andy Greene each scored in the first period as the New Jersey Devils beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-1 on Saturday at Prudential Center.

Keith Kinkaid stopped all 17 Carolina shots he faced before leaving with an injury at 13:59 of the second period. He got hurt when he did a split while attempting to stop a rebound.

Carolina pulled goaltender Anton Khudobin with over four minutes to play, but couldn't score despite spending plenty of time in the New Jersey zone.

Khudobin finished with 16 saves as the Hurricanes lost for the fourth time in six games.

The Devils took a 1-0 lead 10:32 into the game when Ruutu tipped Adam Larsson's one-timer past Khudobin. Henrique had a breakaway and went five-hole on Khudobin less than two minutes later.

New Jersey went up 3-0 before the first intermission. Jordin Tootoo carried the puck behind the Carolina net and sent a pass into the slot for Greene, who glided to his right before beating Khudobin on the glove side with 27.1 seconds left.
