Quick shines, Kings beat Blues 1-0 in SO
Oct 17, 2014 - 6:38 AM Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Quick made 43 saves during regulation and overtime and three more in the shootout to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 1-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.Jeff Carter scored the lone goal of the shootout as the Kings' first skater, beating Brian Elliott with a wrist shot over the netminder's pad and under his blocker. Quick stopped T.J. Oshie, Alex Steen and Vladimir Tarasenko to seal the Kings' fifth straight home win against the Blues.
Quick notched his 32nd career shutout, tying Rogie Vachon for first all-time in Kings history.
"It's more about wins than shutouts when we go out there," Quick said.
Elliott was outstanding in defeat, making 18 saves for his 26th career shutout.
"We got the one point, and we'll keep plugging along. We're not going to hang our heads on that one," Elliott said.
Both teams had several prime opportunities during regulation.
Halfway through the second period, Steen crashed the net and chipped away at the puck down low. Quick took exception to a late poke from Steen, resulting in a scrum after the whistle and leading to a pair of minor penalties.
Quick stopped Paul Stastny point-blank in the slot to preserve the scoreless game with just over a minute remaining in the second.
Jordan Nolan entered the zone on a two-on-one and weaved past a sliding defender, but Elliott snagged his offering with a quick flick of his glove 7:27 into the third.
Quick made a stellar glove save of his own, robbing Jay Bouwmeester, who snapped a shot from the slot with seven minutes to play.
