Wild win 10th straight on road in SO over Isles
Mar 25, 2015 - 4:14 AM Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Zach Parise scored the only goal of the shootout as the Minnesota Wild continued their stellar road streak with a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday.Parise was the first shooter for Minnesota and his shot rang off the left post, hit off the back of Jaroslav Halak and slipped in.
Devan Dubnyk then stopped Kyle Okposo and John Tavares as the Wild ran their road-winning streak to 10 straight games.
"It's great to get these road wins because they're huge when you get in the playoffs," said Dubnyk. "If we can keep finding ways to win these games when the playoffs start it will be really big for us."
Parise had Minnesota's only goal of regulation and Dubnyk finished with 37 stops for the Wild, who sit in the top wild card spot in the Western Conference with 91 points and trail Chicago by three points for third place in the Central Division. Chicago, though, has two games in hand.
Tavares lit the lamp and Halak made 31 stops for the Islanders, who have lost five of their last six.
"You need to shut the door when you have the lead," said Tavares. "We got a bad bounce there and it's unfortunate, but we were able to get a point out of it."
The Islanders stayed two points ahead of the Penguins for second place in the Metropolitan Division, and trail the Rangers by six points for first place.
The game stayed scoreless until the closing moments of the second period as Tavares threw a shot on net from the left side and it sat in front of the net. He then skated around to the right side and jammed it in with 23.7 seconds left on the clock for his 34th of the year.
Minnesota tied the game at 11:45 of the third as Jason Pominville sent a pass from the right boards to the inside left circle where Parise snapped it on net. Halak made the stop, but the rebound sat there and Parise shot it in for his 29th of the season.
