Preds slip past Devils

Feb 15, 2015 - 6:32 AM Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Colin Wilson scored the winning goal with 3:27 to play as the Nashville Predators nabbed a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.

Craig Smith and Matt Cullen each added a goal and an assist, while Pekka Rinne stopped 21 shots for the Predators, who have won five straight.

"If I was being honest, we had been playing hard the previous four games, but we weren't on the attack like we were tonight," said Nashville head coach Peter Laviolette. "That's who we are and how we got to this point in the season. I liked it; the guys responded well to it, they were open-minded. I thought it was our best 60 minutes in a while."

Steve Bernier had the only goal of the game for the Devils, who have dropped their past four games. Cory Schneider allowed all three goals on 38 shots.

"I thought after the first we regrouped and came back," Schneider said. "Easily could've gone our way, unfortunately it didn't."

The Predators went ahead off a nice play with 3:27 left in the game. Mike Fisher sent a hard pass from the outside right circle to the low left side for Cullen, who one-touched the puck back to the right where Wilson snapped it in.

Nashville added an insurance marker just over a minute later when Smith was working the puck behind the net and it came out front to the left side where he quickly snapped it in for his 15th of the season.

The first goal of the game went to Nashville, as Cullen got the puck behind the right side of the net and came out to the front for a quick shot past Schneider.

New Jersey, though, tied the game on the power play at 17:37 of the second, as Eric Gelinas' shot from the high slot went off the boards behind the net and came out front where Bernier swiped it in.
