Flames edge Canucks
Feb 15, 2015 - 6:50 AM Calgary, AB (SportsNetwork.com) - Lance Bouma scored the winning goal early in the third period to lead the Calgary Flames in a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.Sean Monahan scored twice and Jiri Hudler had two assists for the Flames, who have won five of their last seven games. Karri Ramo turned away 28 shots in the win.
"We did a great job," Bouma said. "Guys were sacrificing the body, just doing whatever it takes."
Linden Vey and Ronalds Kenins each scored for the Canucks, who had won three of four coming into the contest. Ryan Miller allowed all three goals on 34 shots.
"I thought we worked hard tonight. I thought the guys played hard. They pushed for the last ten minutes, you can't ask for much more," Vancouver coach Willie Desjardins said.
With the score tied in the third, the Flames went on top just 1:41 in as David Jones sent a pass from the right corner to the slot where Bouma one-timed it home for his 10th of the season.
Ramo held the fort from there, turning away nine shots in the frame to preserve the victory.
The only goal of the first period went to Vancouver as Kenins scored his third of the season at 16:12 on a wrister for a 1-0 lead.
Calgary tied the game 6:48 into the second as Johnny Gaudreau put a backhand on net during a rush play, and Monahan pushed the puck in as Vancouver's Christopher Tanev slid into the net.
The goal was briefly reviewed to see if the net had come off its moorings, but the goal-call on the ice was upheld.
Just under five minutes later, the Flames took a 2-1 lead as Monahan passed the puck from the slot to the right side for Hudler, who sent it back to the slot where Monahan one-timed it home for his 19th of the season.
The Canucks, though, tied the game with 2:17 to play in the second, as Vey skated down the ice along the right wing and passed it to the left for Chris Higgins, who sent a shot on net that saw Vey snap in the rebound for his ninth of the season.
