Schneider, New Jersey blank Arizona

Feb 24, 2015 - 5:14 AM Newark, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Cory Schneider turned away all 38 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season to lead the New Jersey Devils in a 3-0 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Monday.

Mike Cammalleri scored twice and Scott Gomez lit the lamp once for the Devils, who have won four straight.

"The guys in front did a really good job because I didn't really have to make any tough saves," said Schneider. "They kept things clear in front and cleaned up any of the rebounds that were sitting there."

Mike Smith allowed two goals on 27 shots for the Coyotes, who have lost their last six games.

"We made a few mistakes that cost us, but I thought the game was a step in the right direction for us," said Arizona defenseman Michael Stone.

The Devils grabbed a 1-0 lead at 12:33 of the first period as Gomez picked a pass off in the neutral zone and skated down the right wing, slipping a backhander between the pads of Smith for his fifth goal of the season.

Arizona had 14 shots in the first period and threw another 14 on net in the second, doubling New Jersey's shot total in the frame, but Schneider held his ground to keep the one-goal lead heading to the third.

New Jersey got an insurance goal just 1:41 into the second as Jordin Tootoo banked the puck out of his zone and Cammalleri caught up to it, skating down the right wing and lifting a backhander into the right corner for his 21st of the season.

Cammalleri scored on an empty net with 1:48 to play and Schneider stopped 10 shots in the third to polish off the shutout.
