Blues skate past Avs in OT

Dec 14, 2014 - 6:11 AM Denver, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - T.J. Oshie scored 63 seconds into overtime to give the St. Louis Blues their fourth straight win, 3-2 over the Colorado Avalanche.

Alex Pietrangelo and Kevin Shattenkirk also lit the lamp for the Blues, who received 23 saves from Jake Allen.

Erik Johnson scored twice and Calvin Pickard stopped 39 shots for Colorado, which have dropped five of its last six games.

Barret Jackman delivered a pass from the left boards to the slot area, where Oshie used a defenseman as a screen before firing the puck into the upper right corner of the net.

"This is something I've worked on in practice, catching it and releasing it quick," Oshie said. "It was perfect timing and Jack made a great feed to me."

Johnson gave the Avs the lead 14:01 into the game on the power play with a successful slap shot from the point.

Shattenkirk's fourth goal of the season, a power-play marker, tied the score with 4:37 left in the first. Pickard made saves on shots from Jaden Schwartz and Jori Lehtera, but Shattenkirk had the loose disc in the right circle and held it there until roofing the puck over the fallen goaltender.

Pietrangelo's scored on a shot from the right boards at 8:16 of the second, but the Avs tied it with 1:24 remaining in the period. Off an odd-man rush, Johnson scored on a shot from the right circle.

Both goaltenders made 13 stops in the third, but Pickard made some sparkling stops. That included robbing Alexander Steen from in front with a pad save with 7:16 to go.

"They are a big team that goes to the net hard," Pickard said. "Our D (defense) blocked them out very well."
