Pavelec, Jets silence Blues

Apr 8, 2015 - 4:58 AM St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Thorburn netted the lone score of the contest in the second period and Winnipeg emerged with a 1-0 decision over St. Louis at Scottrade Center.

Ondrej Pavelec stopped all 30 shots he faced to post his fourth shutout of the year for the Jets, who are trying to solidify their hold on the final wild- card slot in the West.

Pavelec's clean sheet came on the heels of his 32-save whitewash on Monday in Minnesota.

"He's our best player," Thorburn said of Pavelec. "He's in a groove."

Jake Allen stopped 30 pucks for the Blues, who are trying to hold onto the top spot in the Central Division.

Thorburn opened the scoring at 2:31 of the second period, trailing a rush and then following up a Jim Slater rebound before beating Allen on a backhander.

Pavelec made 12 stops in the first period and eight more in the second as his Winnipeg teammates peppered Allen with 17 pucks to no avail.

Allen only faced three pucks to 10 for Pavelec in the third period, but he was equal to each one. The Blues had an extra skater for most of the last 90 seconds but couldn't extend the contest.

"I don't think we played with enough urgency," Allen said. "We didn't match their intensity."
