Bishop, Stamkos fuel Bolts' win; Panthers won't make playoffs

Apr 5, 2015 - 4:22 AM Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Steven Stamkos scored a pair of goals and assisted on another to help the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 4-0 win over the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.

Ryan Callahan and Tyler Johnson supplied the other goals for Tampa Bay, which tied Montreal at the top of the Atlantic Division with 104 points.

Ben Bishop stopped all 34 shots sent his way to preserve the shutout, his fourth of the year. The Maine product also managed to set a new career and team record with his 38th win of the season.

"I thought we played a complete game," said Bishop. "It was a full 60 minutes and we stuck in it. Once we got that lead, it was nice to get that second one, and kind of go from there."

The loss was crucial for the Panthers, who were eliminated from playoff contention. Roberto Luongo made 18 saves in defeat.

"Disappointed," Luongo said of the playoff chase. "We were right there."

Stamkos opened the scoring at 6:10 of the second period while on the power play when he took a cross-ice feed from Johnson and one-timed it past Luongo for the goal.

Stamkos then potted his second of the night when he sniped a wrister into the net that made it 2-0 just over five minutes later.

Callahan added some insurance early in the third when he skated in and got a wrist shot past Luongo after a couple of nifty moves entering the zone.

Johnson's goal at 18:13 of the third capped the scoring.
