Moss' late goal leads Calgary over Colorado

Nov 10, 2010 - 5:27 AM Denver, CO (Sports Network) - David Moss scored the game-winner late in the third period and also dished out an assist, as the Calgary Flames rallied past the Colorado Avalanche, 4-2, at the Pepsi Center.

Curtis Glencross scored two goals for the Flames, who snapped a four-game skid. Mikael Backlund also lit the lamp.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 29 saves.

"It's great to have four lines to roll together," Moss said. "That really wears them down."

Brandon Yip and Chris Stewart scored for the Avalanche, who went 2-2-0 on their homestand. Peter Budaj turned aside 21-of-24 shots.

Trailing 2-1, Calgary tied the contest at the 9:03 mark of the third. Backlund picked up a loose puck in the slot and fired a wrister past Budaj.

Moss gave the Flames a 3-2 edge with 4:15 to play. Niklas Hagman tried to stuff the puck past Budaj at the side of the net. Moss was right there to chip the rebound into the back of the net.

Glencross' empty-net goal sealed the victory.

"We've got to win these types of games," Stewart said. "There isn't much to take out of this."

Yip's power-play goal put Colorado on the board at the 4:13 mark of the first period. Jonas Holos' slapper from the point was deflected into the back of the net by Yip.

The Flames tied the game just 36 seconds into the second on Glencross' power- play goal. Jay Bouwmeester's slap shot from the left point deflected off Glencross and past Budaj.

Stewart gave the Avs a 2-1 lead at the 1:25 mark of the third stanza. With Colorado on a 5-on-3 power play, Milan Hejduk fired a shot on net from the right circle. Stewart was in front to jam home the rebound.

Game Notes

Each of the last eight games between the clubs had been decided by just one goal. The Avs have won seven of last 10 games in this series...Stewart recorded his 100th career point...Avs forward David Jones sat out with a hand injury...Glencross was back in the lineup after missing Friday's game with a lower-body injury...Colorado forward T.J. Galiardi left the game with a right wrist injury.
