Streaking Sens welcome Canucks

Nov 11, 2010 - 4:15 PM (Sports Network) - The Ottawa Senators will try to extend their longest winning streak of the season this evening as they play host to the Vancouver Canucks at Scotiabank Place.

The Senators have won four straight and six of their last seven games since a 2-5-1 start and are coming off Tuesday's 5-2 victory over Atlanta.

Jason Spezza had two goals and an assist to give him three tallies and seven points in his last three games. He has battled a groin injury this year and missed four straight games near the end of October.

Sergei Gonchar, Chris Neil and Jesse Winchester had the other goals and Erik Karlsson recorded two assists for the Senators, who are 5-3-0 at home this year.

"We're getting contributions from different guys," Ottawa head coach Cory Clouston said when asked about the key to the winning streak. "The last little while we've been able to put a complete game together and most of that is based on confidence."

Making his 11th straight start, Brian Elliott made 35 saves. He did not practice on Wednesday and Clouston said his netminder is "a little banged up" but he is expected to play tonight.

Forward Milan Michalek missed four straight games for the Senators due to tendinitis in his knee, but returned to action on Tuesday.

The Sens picked up a 3-1 win at home over the Canucks on Feb. 4 to snap a three-game series home losing streak, but was bested 5-1 in Vancouver on March 13. The Canucks have won five of six and seven of the last nine meetings between the clubs.

The Canucks will be looking to rebound tonight after getting shut out for the first time since Nov. 22 of last year with Tuesday's 2-0 setback in Montreal. The blanking came in the opener of a five-game road trip and dropped Vancouver to 2-4-1 on the road this year.

Roberto Luongo finished with 27 saves for the Canucks, who saw their six-game win streak halted and lost in regulation for the first time since Oct. 19.

"We didn't play our game -- they played well, give them credit," said Canucks defenseman Andrew Alberts. "They scored when they had opportunities and they put pressure on us."

Vancouver defenseman Dan Hamhuis played for the first time in nine games due to a foot injury.
