Kesler helps Canucks down Senators in Ottawa
Nov 12, 2010 - 6:36 AM Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Ryan Kesler scored twice, while Daniel Sedin, Tanner Glass and Alex Burrows notched a goal and assist each as Vancouver used a strong third period to dispatch Ottawa, 6-2, at Scotiabank Place.Mario Bliznak posted his first career tally for the Canucks, whose seventh win in eight games provided head coach Alain Vigneault with his 300th coaching victory.
"In the first we didn't play good enough, but we got it together in the second," said Kesler. "If we don't have different guys scoring for us we're never gonna have success."
Roberto Luongo halted 33-of-35 shots for the win.
Peter Regin and Sergei Gonchar lit the lamp for the Senators, who saw their four-game win streak halted.
"We played very well the first 40 minutes and if you take away the first two shifts of the third period we played a good game," said Ottawa head coach Cory Coulston. "But that's a good team over there and they made us pay for our mistakes."
Pascal Leclaire was torched for all six goals on 33 shots in defeat.
Vancouver tallied four times in the final period to claim victory.
First, it was Burrows who picked up his first score of the season just 33 seconds in to make it 3-1 for the Canucks, then Kesler followed 38 seconds later to widen the gap to three.
Glass notched his first goal of the year at the 11:03 mark, and his high shot from the slot was batted out of the air at the right side of the crease by Bliznak to make it 6-1 with 3:24 remaining.
Gonchar's bullet from the point from a faceoff win 12 seconds later capped the scoring.
Just 22 seconds into the game, the Sedin twins worked their magic, as Henrik stripped a Senators defender in the neutral zone, then broke in 2-on-1 with his brother. Daniel ended the rush with a tap-in from the edge of the crease.
Regin pulled Ottawa even at 3:27 of the opening period when he poked the rebound of an Alex Kovalev shot between Luongo's pads, but Kesler moved around Leclaire and tucked a shot inside the right post with 8:40 left in the second period.
