Fiddler's hat trick helps Coyotes edge Flames

Nov 13, 2010 - 4:56 AM Glendale, AZ (Sports Network) - Vernon Fiddler's first career hat trick helped the Phoenix Coyotes take a 5-4 win over the Calgary Flames.

Scottie Upshall and Lee Stempniak each lit the lamp for the Coyotes, who have won their past two after dropping three in a row. Ilya Bryzgalov made 31 saves in the win.

Rene Bourque had a goal and an assist while Ian White, Tim Jackman and Alex Tanguay each scored once for the Flames, who were coming off a win over Colorado on Tuesday, but have now lost five of their last six. Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 21-of-25 shots in the loss.

Fiddler's third goal of the game came with the net empty at the 18:22 mark to give Phoenix a 5-2 lead and apparently seal the win, but Calgary didn't quit.

The Flames made it a 5-3 game with 49 seconds to play as Matt Stajan threw a pass from the right boards to the front where Tanguay tapped it in.

Then with 19.5 seconds left Calgary made it a one-goal contest as a left faceoff win saw Steve Staios with the puck at the left boards and he sent it out front where Jackman one-timed it home.

However, Phoenix won the next faceoff and a final faceoff with 1.3 seconds left to hold on for the win.

Bourque got Calgary on the board at the 9:24 mark of the first, but Fiddler's first of the game tied it 1:34 into the second period.

Stempniak scored at 5:22 of the middle frame and Upshall made it a 3-1 game as his big blast from the left circle got past Kiprusoff at 8:21.

The Flames made it a 3-2 game with a power-play goal with 7:20 left in the sedond as a slapper from the high slot by White got past Kiprusoff.

Fiddler gave Phoenix some breathing room with 7:36 left in the third as his blast from the slot was stopped, but Kiprusoff was unable to find the rebound and Fiddler banged it home for a 4-2 advantage.
