Myers' OT tally lifts Sabres past Canucks

Nov 16, 2010 - 6:51 AM Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Tyler Myers scored the game-winning goal with 23 seconds left in overtime as the Buffalo Sabres edged the Vancouver Canucks, 4-3, at HSBC Arena.

Tied at the end of regulation, Buffalo killed off the remainder of Cody McCormick's minor penalty for boarding and neither side could light the lamp despite having some quality chances early on.

However, the Canucks got careless in front of their own net late in the extra period when Dan Hamhuis turned the puck over to Myers, who skated in and fired a wrist shot past Cory Schneider on the glove side from the slot.

"I saw him (Hamhuis) kind of look up towards the far side, so I just stepped in and luckily I picked it off. It could have easily gone the other way," Myers said. "I was fortunate to get it."

Tyler Ennis, McCormick and Steve Montador each tallied in regulation for Buffalo, which has won two straight and four of its last five. Ryan Miller turned aside 36-of-39 shots in the win.

Daniel Sedin had a goal and two assists for the Canucks, who dropped to 0-3 in Buffalo since claiming their last win there on February 7, 2003. Alexander Edler and Mikael Samuelsson also tallied while Schneider made 35 saves in taking the loss.

"They really park themselves in front of the net...There were some ones on the power play that ended up reaching me that I didn't see," Schneider said of the Sabres.

Henrik Sedin added three helpers for the Canucks.

With Buffalo ahead 3-1 after two periods, Edler's point blast on the power play 4:48 into the third cut the Canucks' deficit to one.

Vancouver then pulled even at 9:21. Following a Sabres' failed clearing attempt, Daniel Sedin got the puck and shoveled a pass to Samuelsson, who fired it home from in close.

Still tied at 3-3, Vancouver had a golden opportunity when McCormick was whistled for a boarding minor with 1:21 left in regulation, but were unable capitalize in regulation and the early portion of overtime.

Buffalo opened the scoring 8:22 into the first period when Ennis took a centering pass from Derek Roy and beat Schneider with a soft wrister from in front.

McCormick made it a 2-0 game with 2:58 left in the stanza on a rebound tally from a bad angle.

Daniel Sedin's power-play goal on a wrist shot from the right circle 7:18 into the second got the Canucks on the board.

After some good offensive pressure by the Sabres, Montador's blast from the point made its way through a screen and found the back of the net for a 3-1 game with 6:35 remaining in the second period.

Sabres forward Patrick Kaleta left at the midway point of the contest with an upper-body injury and did not return...Vancouver finished 2-for-5 on the power play, while Buffalo went 0-for-5 with the man advantage...Sabres center Rob Niedermayer appeared in his 1,100th NHL game.
